BIODERMA's mission has always been to better understand the skin and especially understand how healthy skin works to know how to rebalance it when it malfunctions. Upstream, BIODERMA teams work in close collaboration with national and international scientists and laboratories with advanced expertise in skin biology. Ongoing progress in fundamental research provides keys to better understand the causes of skin imbalances and paves the way to dermatological innovations.

In the past, BIODERMA always relied on clinical research to develop product innovations, and this is still true today. Essential sources of information, dermatologists further BIODERMA's research by identifying skin problems requiring new responses. The partnership then continues throughout the innovation process to validate the safety and effectiveness of each new product. Clinical trials in hospitals take all aspects into account, from tolerance to the most suitable formulation. The BIODERMA Laboratory frequently publishes scientific and clinical studies together with major international laboratories.

Major Bioderma innovations

1977: Nodé - Non-detergence
For the first time, a shampoo respects the physiological balance of the hair bulb and preserves the biological characteristics of the hair's hydrolipidic film. As a result, the hair is clean and protected and the scalp is not irritated.

1991: Sensibio H2O - Micellar water
This is the 1st and only dermatological micellar water perfectly biologically compatible with the skin: its fatty acid esters, the constituent elements of micelles, are similar to the phospholipids of the skin cell membranes and naturally help rebuild the skin's hydrolipidic film, which guarantees second-to-none tolerance and comfort, for optimum make-up removal efficacy.

2002: Photoderm – Cellular Bioprotection^™
Photoderm: The 1st dermatological sun range combining the best in surface UVA-UVB protection with cellular protection that preserves the biological structures responsible for skin immunity and strengthens the natural self-defence systems of the skin cells.

2004: Sebium AKN – The Fluidactiv^™ complex
Intended for acne-prone skin, the Fluidactiv^™ patent acts on one of the main causes of acne: thickening of the sebum. This Fluidactiv patented complex biologically limits the thickening of the sebum and regulates its quality, thereby preventing the formation of pimples, blackheads and blemishes. 

2005: Hydrabio – Aquagenium^™
This patent stimulates the skin's natural moisturising capacities by promoting the synthesis of two components naturally found in the skin and essential to the water cycle: aquaporins, intercellular water channels, and lipids, to rebuild the skin barrier.

2007: Atoderm PP - Ecodefensine^™
Intended for very dry to atopic sensitive skin, the Ecodefensine^™ patent stimulates the natural synthesis of antimicrobial peptides produced by the skin itself and inhibits the growth of bacteria responsible for recurring break-outs of atopy.

2010: Matricium - Medical device for tissue regeneration
Matricium is a worldwide patent and a renowned scientific innovation for skin health. The MATRICIUM Medical Device recreates a 100% biomimetic micro-environment that supplies essential elements promoting cell renewal and tissue regeneration.
